Daniel Sandler - Luxury Matte Lipstick Casablanca

Bold lips are back!

As winter approaches, it's all about striking lip shades; from pillar-box red to rich cranberry, a bold lip can give you a healthy pop of colour. Here are our top-tips for getting a picture perfect pout that will last you from day to night.

Make sure you've got a great base to apply your lip colour. If your lips are dry, chapped or peeling, try a gentle lip exfoliant or gently scrub your lips with a soft toothbrush to remove any dead skin. Apply a nourishing lip balm to condition your lips and leave them kissably soft. It's a good idea to apply your lip balm before you start your face makeup, so by the time you get to applying your lippie, the balm has has enough time to sink into your lips.

Prime and line

A lip primer will help your lipstick or gloss last throughout the day. Try our new Colour Lock Prime and Fill Lip Liner. The extremely long-wearing, transparent, waterproof gel formula glides onto lips, leaving them super soft, and dries down to impart a smoother, younger-looking pout - the perfect base for your lip colour.

Colour Lock Prime and Line Lip Liner

Colour Lock Prime and Fill Lip Liner

When used to outline the outer lip edge, just outside your natural lip line, this transparent gel lip liner immediately creates a barrier, preventing lipstick and lip gloss from bleeding into fine lines and wrinkles. No more feathered edges!

Colourless, this lip liner suits any skin tone, and can be worn with any shade of lipstick or lip gloss - no more worrying about matching your liner to your lippie, or carrying lots of liners round with you in your handbag.

What's more, because it's transparent, you don't have to be so precise when lining your lips - a little slip and no one will know! Perfect for when you're running out the door or between meetings.

If you want to apply a coloured lip pencil, it’s always personal choice as to whether lips should be lined subtly or not but a good rule of thumb is to apply pencil after lipstick application so that you get a softer, more flattering finish.

Try applying your lipstick with a brush

If you want a precise, professional looking finish, try using a lip brush to apply your lipstick. It's much easier to apply lipstick to the outer corners of your mouth with a small headed brush than directly with your lipstick. Start from the centre of your lips and blend outwards to the lip edge.
